Another squabble between Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos and the PSL could be brewing should the two parties not reach a consensus over the release of players by the clubs for a training camp the Belgian has planned for November.

Broos revealed on Thursday that he was planning to hold a Bafana camp during the upcoming break that has specially been granted to the leagues around the world to allow qualified countries to prepare for the World Cup, which starts in Qatar on November 20.

However, the 70-year-old hinted that he was anticipating “a lot of problems” that might derail his plans to take advantage of a period in which World Cup-bound nations would eye friendly matches against countries like South Africa, who failed to qualify for the global showpiece.

During the announcement of the Bafana squad for next week’s friendlies against Sierra Leone and Botswana at FNB Stadium, Broos said:

South Africa will meet the Leone Stars next Saturday and Botswana three days later.

Broos had expected to keep Bafana busy in November, but he has cited the timing of the revamped, four-team Carling Black Label Cup on November 12 as standing in the way of his plans.

The one-day tournament will feature four teams that will be voted for by the fans. As things stand, Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns are leading the votes and will certainly take part.

“We have already gone to the league [PSL] to ask if we could do a camp. At the moment, we don’t have an answer. But, if the clubs don’t release the players, I can’t do a camp, I am sorry.

“So, yes, if there is no space to have a serious camp with the players that we need, why should I have a friendly match against an opponent who is going to the World Cup?

“I need the strongest team I can have [but] if the players of Sundowns, Chiefs and Pirates won’t come, I’ll have to cancel.”

Confrontations between Broos, PSL clubs and the league are well-documented.

Previously, the veteran tactician accused the coaches and the clubs of not heeding his proposal for meetings to resolve the player call-up issues.

Safa has since promised to broker a meeting between the warring parties, but nothing has happened so far.
