IRISH shoppers have been warned after Marks & Spencer recalled a number of products with chicken due to salmonella fears.

The 12 chicken-based products were sold in M&S stores across the country.

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland have listed 12 products that have been recalled over the salmonella fears.

Point-of-sale recall notices will be displayed in stores supplied with the implicated batches.

Consumers have been advised not to eat the implicated batches.

The FSAI said: "People infected with salmonella typically develop symptoms between 12 and 36 hours after infection, but this can range between 6 and 72 hours.

"The most common symptom is diarrhoea, which can sometimes be bloody.

"Other symptoms may include fever, headache and abdominal cramps.

"The illness usually lasts four to seven days. Diarrhoea can occasionally be severe enough to require hospital admission.

"The elderly, infants, and those with impaired immune systems are more likely to have more severe illness."

The recall includes the below products:

This comes as Dunnes Stores issued an urgent allergy alert over undeclared barley in a batch of meat.

The Smoky BBQ Irish Pork Ribs were sold in supermarkets across the country.

The affected product - pack size 500g - had a best before date of May 13, 2022 and approval number IE 538 EC.

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland said: "The incorrect back label was applied to the implicated batch of Dunnes Stores Smoky BBQ Irish Pork Ribs.

"The product contains barley which is not mentioned on the label.

"This may make the batch unsafe for consumers who are allergic to or intolerant of cereals containing gluten (barley)."

Last month, a batch of chicken pies were recalled due to the possible presence of small plastic pieces.

Fray Bentos Just Chicken Pie - pack size 425g and batch code L079T with time code between 06:00 - 08:22 - was sold in shops around Ireland.
